Become an Orientation Leader

Orientation Leaders are recruited each year starting in October and interviewed/selected during November. Watch for advertisements and more information on-campus, at our website, and in the FSView.
Orientation Leader applicants need to meet the following requirements:
- Each candidate must be a full-time degree-seeking undergraduate student and have completed 12 credit hours at Florida State University by January of the year you are applying to be an Orientation Leader.
- Each candidate must have at least a 2.75 overall grade point average at the time of application and this average must be maintained throughout employment (circumstances such as disability which might have impacted GPA will be considered on an individual basis).
- No student may hold the position while on academic or disciplinary probation as defined by the Student Code of Conduct or Academic Honor Policy.
- Selected Orientation Leaders cannot graduate prior to December following the summer they serve as an Orientation Leader.
Basic Obligations:
- Orientation Leaders must take a minimum course load of 12 hours during the spring semester for the year they are selected.
- Orientation Leader cannot take courses during summer session A or B during the year they are selected (courses may be taken during summer session C). Orientation Leaders can also not hold an outside job during summer session A or B for the year they are selected.
- All selected Orientation Leaders must successfully complete a non-credit training class held on Tuesdays from 4-6:30 p.m. in the spring semester for the year they are selected, other training obligations, and attend all orientation programs.
- Orientation Leaders must remain in good academic and judicial standing with the University during their tenure in the position, not violate the Student Code of Conduct, and conduct themselves in an appropriate manner as is reflected by the Student Conduct Code both in person and electronically via the Internet (myspace.com, Facebook, etc).
- Each Orientation Leader must live with another OL in the designated orientation residence hall during summer orientation dates. New Student & Family Programs will cover the cost of this housing.
Selection Process:
- Applications available online and in the Office of New Student & Family Programs starting Oct. 1, 2008.
- Must attend one (1) mandatory Convocation (Information Session): TBA.
- All application materials due NO LATER than TBA but may also be turned in early or at a Convocation.
- Must attend one (1) mandatory Group Interview: TBA. Sign ups and locations will be available at information Convocations.
- Individual Interviews (by invitation) will take place TBA.
- Following the completion of Individual Interviews, selections will be made and candidates will be notified.
